Deconsolidation of Anthem Water
On April 1, 2011, Arizona American Water submitted a proposal to the Arizona Corporation Commission to deconsolidate the Anthem wastewater district from the Agua Fria wastewater district. If the proposal is approved, Anthem customers will see a reduction in their current wastewater bills. Compared to what we were paying in 2010, Anthem’s wastewater increase of approximately 50% on January 1, 2011 will be reduced to 15%. The outcome of this proposal will be the same for all residential customers as there is no distinction due to meter sizes.
During the procedural process, the Anthem Community Council (ACC) will file written testimony and rebuttals to the testimony of other interveners which will be presented before the administrative law judge at the Commission. A public hearing will commence on October 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Arizona Corporation Commission. Public comments will be taken on this day.
Below is the procedural schedule for the deconsolidation case:
June 24 – Motions to intervene are due
July 26 – Written direct testimony is due
August 23 – Written rebuttal testimony is due
September 20 – Written surrebuttal testimony is due
October 11 – Written rejoinder testimony is due

Anthem Residents Encouraged to Support Deconsolidation in Wastewater Case:
Deconsolidation Saves $ and It’s the Right Thing to Do!
Background to Deconsolidation: As part of the decision in the water rate case last December, Arizona American Water Company (AAWC) was required to file statements and schedules with the Arizona Corporation Commission (Commission) that would permit Anthem to urge the Commission to deconsolidate the Anthem wastewater district from the Agua Fria wastewater district.
AAWC filed this application on April 1, and all parties involved in the case are filing their testimonies. If approved, compared to what we were paying in 2010, Anthem’s wastewater increase of approximately 50% on January 1, 2011 will be reduced to 15% at the end of a 3-year phase–in period! Anthem customers will see a significant savings in the wastewater portion of their bill, but Agua Fria customers will realize an increase, and they are speaking out in opposition to Anthem’s position in support of deconsolidation.
What You Can Do:
