Painting Your Parkside Home - What to Know

The Anthem Parkside Compliance Team has recently completed the 2011 house paint inspections. This is a very thorough process, performed annually, where two-person teams tour every neighborhood of the Parkside community and visually inspect each home for the visual appeal of the home's house paint. This year, the teams identified approximately 450 homes where new paint is needed.

Given that homes in our community range from new to 12 years old, it is no surprise that many homes are in need of paint at this time. If you have received the Courtesy Notice that your home needs to be painted, there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • The Association generously offers Parkside residents one year from the date of the courtesy notice to complete the painting project on their home.
  • The Board of Directors has approved 77 different color schemes to choose from. These color schemes are available for review at the HOA offices (3701 W. Anthem Way, Suite 102) and online at www.onlineatanthem.com/parkside-design-guidelines.

In addition, color scheme books are available for review at the following retail paint locations:

    • Sherwin-Williams Paints
41780 N. Vision Way, Suite 101 (Anthem Commerce Park, South of Wal-Mart)
    • Frazee Paints
      17224 N. 43rd Avenue (43rd Avenue & Bell Road)
    • Ace Hardware
3440 W. Anthem Way (Shops at Anthem)
    • Home Depot
35050 N. Valley Parkway (Tramonto Location)

  • If you choose to change the color of your home to one of the approved paint schemes, an application must be filed with the Architectural Review Committee. Applications are available online at www.onlineatanthem.com/parkside-design-guidelines. Please make sure to utilize the “Exterior Paint Application for Approval” form.

When filing your application, please make certain to include a photo of your home and label the photo as to where each of the colors in the color scheme will be located.

  • If you have samples of the original colors placed on your home, you are able to simply re-paint your home the same color scheme if you choose. An application to the ARC is not required when a home is re-painted the same color.

If you do not have the original color samples, but would like to paint your home the same color, please be cautioned when color matching. Color matching to the now faded color of the paint will not result in painting your home the same scheme as originally painted. If you are unsure, please consider reviewing  the 77 approved color schemes. You may find one there that matches your home perfectly!

  • If  you feel that you are not able to fulfill your painting commitment within the 12 month time frame, please contact our offices. The Parkside Community Association is committed to working with residents on all compliance issues. Time extensions may be available.
  • If you disagree with the decision that your home needs to be painted, you do have the opportunity to appeal your notice to the Board of Directors.

If you did not receive the paint notification this year, here are a couple of things that you can do to extend the lifetime of your paint.

  • Regularly touch-up the eaves on your home.  Often times, the eaves of a home can appear discolored from a variety of elements, including Christmas lights and plant material. Keeping this area looking fresh gives a good face-lift to what may otherwise be a deteriorating paint job.
  • Regularly touch-up  primary focal points on your home. A fresh coat of paint on a garage door, pop-outs or shutters can give a fresh look to your home. Please keep in mind that all “touch-ups” should be done with original paint. Any changes in paint colors must be from the pre-approved paint schemes and approved through the Architectural Review Committee.
  • Periodically power wash your home. In our desert environment, we have a lot of dust. Dust accumulating in the stucco over years, or plant material rubbing against the home, can give the appearance of fading paint, especially on some of the lighter colors.

We understand that painting your home is a big undertaking. If you have any questions at all regarding the painting process, please do not hesitate to contact the Parkside Community Manager, Annette McCarthy, via e-mail at amccarthy [at] aamaz [dot] com, or viaphone at (623) 742-6004.
