Sparky the Fire Dog
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has teamed up with WGBH Kids Interactive, makers of PBS websites like Curious George and Martha Speaks, to create a new online game for preschoolers. Sparky’s® Match Game introduces kids (age 3-5) to what a smoke alarm looks like, the sound a smoke alarm makes and what to do if they hear a smoke alarm. The new game, featured on sparky.org, combines a fun matching game with learning about smoke alarms. Sparky’s Match Game is just one of the online additions slated for Sparky the Fire Dog’s 60th Birthday, being celebrated throughout 2011.

Smokey Bear
Visit www.smokeybear.com for lots of information about Smokey and preventing wildfires. Go to http://www.smokeybear.com/kids/default.asp?js=1 and visit the Kids site to learn about forests, play campfire games, sign up for Smokey Mail, and learn the Bear facts.

Billy Brushwacker
Go to http://www.azsf.az.gov/fire_managment/fire_prevention/billy_brushwacker.asp and visit Billy Brushwacker. Billy goats are useful in some communities working to reduce flammable vegetation by grazing and browsing. Thus, the goats are able to find food and the amount of wildland fuel available to burn is reduced by this activity. Generally for children ages 8-11.
